After two years of a picture of Obie at 16 years old, somebody who had a recent contact with him mailed me a current one. He hasn't aged at all. (Well, O.K., maybe a little—) Obie had a major hit as an R&B singer with his song "Mary Lou". He subsequently went on to establish himself as a great jazz singer. We hooked up in L.A. in the late 70's and have been friends ever since.
